The Foundation
Mike graduates with a marketing degree and begins building the sales and relationship skills that would shape his approach to business.
Our Story
Sun Stoppers grew from one entrepreneur’s determination to build a better window film business into a brand centered on skilled work, premium products, and customer-first service.
Where It Started
Mike Burke’s story has always been about seeing opportunity, moving fast, and refusing to settle for average.
After earning his marketing degree from Western Carolina University in 1994, Mike began his career in automotive sales. His ability to connect with people quickly stood out, but entrepreneurship kept pulling him forward.
He launched his first tint business in Myrtle Beach, then returned home to Charlotte and started a mobile operation called The Tint Man in 1997. What began as hands-on work from a vehicle grew into a reputation for quality, consistency, and service.
The Beginning
Mike’s first lesson in window tinting came long before there was a Sun Stoppers sign on a building. As a teenager, he was embarrassed by a beat-up station wagon, so he tinted the windows himself to make the car look better. People noticed the work and started asking him to tint their cars. One car became five, five became a side hustle, and the side hustle became the work he wanted to keep doing.
The early days were not polished. Mike learned on the job, cut film by hand, worked from whatever space was available, chased leads, and discovered that installing film and building a business were two completely different skills. There was no marketing department or elaborate system—just the belief that good work would bring customers back and give them a reason to tell their friends.
The turning point came gradually. Customers returned with new vehicles and referrals began arriving without Mike having to chase every job. Reputation was becoming the engine of the business. That lesson still shapes Sun Stoppers today: do the work right, stand behind it, and make sure the customer leaves with something better than what arrived.
The Journey
Every stage of the business sharpened the same idea: focus on the work, take care of the customer, and create opportunities for great people.
Mike graduates with a marketing degree and begins building the sales and relationship skills that would shape his approach to business.
A mobile tinting business takes off in Charlotte, earning business across the region through dependable service and strong word of mouth.
The business expands into multiple brick-and-mortar locations and a broader range of automotive aftermarket services.
Mike narrows the vision around film products, premium installation, and a boutique customer experience built to scale without losing quality.

People Make the Brand
As Sun Stoppers grew, Mike shifted from doing everything himself to building systems and mentoring people who could lead. That mindset became part of the company’s DNA.
Today, the brand is powered by professionals who care about their craft and by local operators who know their communities. The goal is simple: give talented people the tools, training, support, and trust to do exceptional work.
What Guides Us
Great results come from skill, attention to detail, and pride in the finished work.
Customers, installers, owners, and partners are treated like relationships—not transactions.
We focus on quality products and professional installation instead of competing on shortcuts.
Training, coaching, and shared experience help strong people become stronger operators and leaders.
Beyond the Shop
Mike’s experience has taken him beyond day-to-day operations and into education, mentorship, speaking, and industry events. His work has included sharing sales and marketing strategies with other professionals and contributing to the broader window film community.
The bigger story is not one person’s success. It is the idea that knowledge should be shared, leaders should create more leaders, and a strong brand should help the people inside it grow.
