Presbyterians established a camp in the Flower Mound area in the 1840s. For a while, the group only held religious camps there for several weeks at a time, but by 1854 they established the Flower Mound Presbyterian Church, and a sparse but permanent settlement began. Flower Mound gets its name from a large mound that lies near the middle of the town. Locals refer to it simply as “The Mound.” During blooming season The Mound is covered in flowers, hence the name “Flower Mound.” 

After the construction of the Dallas/Fort-Worth National Airport, Flower Mound experienced a time of rapid growth, its population tripling within a 10-year space. Today, it continues to experience growth.
